Lumen Launches a Managed Endpoint Detection and Response Service in Asia Pacific
Lumen's managed EDR service for Asia Pacific: AI detection on laptops and PCs, automatic rollback, a 24/7 SOC line, and an IDC security assessment called X-Secure.
Lumen Technologies brought its managed endpoint detection and response offering, MEDR, to Asia Pacific on 15 October 2020. It's aimed at organisations taking on the connected devices and applications of what Lumen calls the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR).
What the MEDR service does
Lumen sells MEDR to enterprises to find and stop threats on their endpoints. It has three parts:
- AI watches staff laptops and PCs, according to Lumen. It flags abnormal behaviour, including attacks that got past antivirus and endpoint protection tools, then runs remediation automatically and puts the machine back in the state it was in before infection.
- Lumen's security specialists meet each customer regularly to go over its security policies: where they stand, how users are being trained, and any suspicious applications or behaviour the team has spotted.
- A 24/7 line runs into Lumen's security operations centre (SOC) for incident alerts, validation and triage.
Remote work is the reason Cheah Wai Kit, director of product management for security at Lumen Asia Pacific, gave for putting MEDR on the endpoint itself. In his words, a large part of the workforce now needs remote access, and those endpoints make a bigger, easily exploited target for criminals.
The IDC X-Secure assessment
Lumen also partnered with IDC on X-Secure, an interactive security assessment tool IDC developed. It draws on IDC's knowledge of good practice and produces peer comparisons and gap analyses, which Lumen says help IT leaders win executive buy-in for security spending.
For Simon Piff, vice president of IDC Asia Pacific's security practice, enterprises pushing ahead with digital transformation are finding they can't fend off cyber threats proactively by themselves.
