Balancing Risk and Reward: RMiT's Role in Malaysia's Financial Landscape

With great technology comes great risk.

This age-old adage resonates now more than ever in a world where digital advancements have ushered in unparalleled convenience and connectivity.

The allure of a digitised world is undeniable, replete with countless benefits and opportunities. Yet, it is essential to remember that this digital frontier is not without its perils, where the treasures of data are not only sought after but sometimes plundered by nefarious actors.

The challenges of the digital age are particularly evident in the realm of financial institutions. These establishments handle vast amounts of sensitive data, making them prime targets for cybercriminals.

A single breach will have devastating consequences.

In Malaysia, the Risk Management in Technology (RMiT) guidelines stand as a guiding light for FSIs to navigate through today’s digital storm. Enforced in June 2019 and updated in June 2023, the RMiT specifically aims to establish necessary frameworks, management structures, policies and procedures to ensure that said institutions reduce their cyber exposure to a level commensurate to their risk. This measured approach aims to help financial organisations strike a balance between embracing the digital era's opportunities and mitigating its inherent threats.

Thus, getting on board with the mandates and provisions in the RMiT is a crucial step towards mitigating risks—and knowing how to respond accordingly when they do materialise. It is also the overriding reason why Tenable, with the support of Asia Online Publishing Group, has organised an exclusive roundtable to help Malaysia’s financial institutions not only comprehend but also successfully implement and adhere to this essential framework.

The event is scheduled to take place at Le Méridien Kuala Lumpur on November 7, 2023, commencing at 9:00 AM and concluding at 12:30 PM. This invitation-only roundtable will delve into essential topics, including:

  • Cyber Risk Communication.

  • NIST Cybersecurity Framework.

  • Best Practices in Cybersecurity.

With Malaysia’s digitalisation efforts now in full swing, minimising risk is more important than ever. Complying with the RMiT represents a significant stride in this direction. Let Tenable guide you along that path by participating in our upcoming roundtable.
